Adversity is a good thing

Adversity is a good thing

Adversity can make us try harder, it will make us want to pull something extraordinary out of the bag. Imagine that golfer who is stuck in the rough and then pulls off that amazing shot to get ahead of everyone else. Be that golfer (unless you don’t like golf, in which case insert the name of another sport as well as a similar metaphor)

Mr Arthur RackhamDress for success!

Look at this dapper chap, it is Mr Arthur RackhamEvery image I have seen of him working in his studio has shown him wearing a nice suit and a tie. I feel that he dressed the part, that he respected what he was doing so much that he put on a shirt and tie to show that he took it seriously If you don’t know who Arthur Rackham is, I suggest you look him up, you’ll be in for a treat.

What makes you special

What is your Awesomesauce?

What makes you special? What stands out about you?

You may have trouble pinning it down to one particular thing. You may be the type of person who struggles to come up with anything. If you are the first type of person just pick three things, mix them together and they will be your awesomesauce. If you are the second type of person, ask a trusted friend to come up with one thing that is special about you and your work (think things like a particular sense of humour? A type of writing that is fresh, distinct or new? A different way of looking at situations?)

Back to Basics

Back to Basics!!

I’ll admit it, I love crayons. I am an artist and I love the immediacy of

these chunks of colour. None of my work has every been completed with a crayon but they have featured heavily in my idea generation. Maybe you could use the basic building blocks of your craft more in your work? Maybe you could go back to your earliest work and develop a project using that as a starting point?

Battle Plan

Battle Plan

How are you going to go about taking over the creative world(or your little part of it, anyway)? Think of how a large organisation (like the military) would go about the same tasks or projects that you are pursuing. They would break the tasks down into major components then they would plan. It wouldn’t need to be a big plan or even a complicated one. Make a battle plan.

Be like a dog with a bone Dogs don’t like bones, they love them. They are totally devoted to them. Whilst the dog is working on a particular bone it’s whole world is that bone, everything else ceases to exist. Be like that dog with your projects. Or at least try to be.

Be ruthless

Be ruthless

If it isn’t working cut it off/out. One short sharp chop and it’s gone, never to be spoken of again. *Trusted friends should be employed to find out if a thing isn’t working. Ask them before you chop anything off!! (Health and Safety: this is a metaphor, don’t actually chop anything off)

Creative food

Creative food

Biscuits are a wonderful source of biscuityness. They can be used as a bribe, a treat, a make-shift tiny Frisbee. I have used them as a tool to diffuse tense situations and to calm down angry teenagers (I used to be a teacher, in teaching biscuits are a must). Keep a packet to hand and everything will go swimmingly.
